The City has distributed this news release regarding Tuesday's (3/17) temporary lock down of two City elementary schools:
On March 17, 2015, at approximately 3:06 pm, the Manassas Park Police responded to Cougar Elementary School to investigate a report of Two Armed Suspicious Persons.
Witnesses reported seeing (2) two male subjects, near the rear of the school, in possession of what appeared to be a rifle with a scope attached. A bus driver noticed the individuals approaching the rear of the school just prior to dismissal of classes.
As a precaution, Manassas Park Elementary and Cougar Elementary Schools were placed on lockdown. Responding units, from Manassas Park, Manassas City, Prince William County Police and Sheriff’s Department, secured the schools and conducted searches of the surrounding area for the suspects.
At approximately 4:00 pm the two 17 year old juvenile male suspects had been located and taken into custody.
All schools were searched and secured during the event and later released from lockdown status at approximately 5:01 pm. No students or school personnel were injured as a result of the incident.
