Families should prepare for severe weather and the potential loss of electrical power by having enough supplies in your home to last for three to five days. Assemble these supplies in easy to carry containers such as backpacks or sturdy totes and carry them with you if you have to evacuate.
Items to include;
One gallon of water per person per day minimum (up to 3 gallons per person if you plan on remaining in your home during the event)
Canned and/or dry packaged food
Battery powered radio
Flashlight or battery powered lantern (You should never use candles for lighting in a disaster)
Extra batteries
Manual can opener
Toiletries and sanitary products
Blankets or sleeping bags
Prescription and over the counter medications
Special items for infants and the elderly in your family
First aid kit
Keep important papers such as banking and insurance information along with a list of important phone numbers with you in a water tight container
During a storm or disaster event;
Remain calm and listen to advice from local authorities
If it is unsafe to stay at your home, go to a safe shelter with your family
Stay away from all downed power lines and other potentially dangerous situations
Do not drive or walk through moving water from overflowing rivers, streams and ditches
